A number of interesting interdisciplinary connections have emerged in recent years
around the versatility and power of Monte Carlo techniques developed in a physical
context. We detail several examples, ranging from a discretized lava flow automaton
exhibiting a diversity of self-organized behaviours to the spread of combustion in
heterogeneous fuel beds and the ellucidation of internal structure of anisotropic
polymers.
