Abstract: Anyone familiar with the works of Luciano Pereira da Silva knows that Cam & otilde;es not only had a clear and confident knowledge of the astronomy of his time and rigorously used tables of astronomical ephemerides, but also made a point of showing his scientific erudition in his work. After knowing this facet of Cam & otilde;es and reading the third verse of his sonnet ´O dia em que eu nasci, morra e pere & ccedil;a´, we may deduce that Cam & otilde;es refers to a solar eclipse that actually occurred, allowing us to infer that the poet was born on January 23, 1524, as Mario Saa proposed in 1940.
