Abstract: We suggest a general method to diagonalize the nondiagonal vector-scalar and axial-vector--pseudoscalar mixing in the effective meson Lagrangian. The method is based on the Hadamard product of n×n matrices, describing the couplings, masses, and fields involved. It also generalizes the (infinitesimal) chiral transformation laws of meson fields in the Nambu-Goldstone phase. The paper ends with an illustrative application to the chiral model with broken SU(3)L×SU(3)R SU(3)L×SU(3)R symmetry.
