Abstract: Mössbauer spectrometry shows that a bulk bcc Fe0.51Cr0.49 alloy annealed between 1000 and 1200 °C and quenched at ambient temperature is not phase-separated in contradiction with recent claims. Despite small differences in the various hyperfine magnetic field distributions, none shows the features expected for phase separation. The latter differences, which are discussed in a companion paper, reflect the sensitivity of the Fe–Cr chemical order to the alloy treatments.
