Abstract: Order-disorder in FeCo are studied by X-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spectroscopy and saturation magnetization measurements in applied fields up to 10 T. Order is promoted by annealing at 550 degrees C and the alloy is disordered either by high-temperature annealing at 980 degrees C followed by a quench into cooled water or by ball-milling. A more disordered state is reached by ball-milling in our dynamical conditions than the one reported to be attained by annealing and quench even at rather high rates. A saturation magnetization as high as 2.51 mu B/at. is obtained. (C) 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim
